Donald Olson

Donald D. Olson, 84, Grand Forks, died Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Donald Duane Olson, the son of Elmer and Ida (Qualheim) Olson, was born October 21, 1931 at Northwood, North Dakota.  He attended rural schools near Northwood, North Dakota and graduated from Northwood High School in 1949.  Donald Olson and Arlene Tunseth were united in marriage on April 19, 1954 at Mayville, North Dakota.   He attended NDSU and graduated from Mayville State Teachers College in 1961, and graduated from Denver University with a Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1968.   Donald and Arlene lived in Grand Forks, and Donald was employed by the University Of North Dakota at the Chester Fritz Library and later the UND School of Law Library until he retired in 1996.  Donald enjoyed Volkswagens and owned several.  He liked watching sports, especially UND sports events.  He was a member of the Goose River Masonic Lodge and a member of the Kem Chanters.  He was generous supporter of  Mayville State University.    Survivors include: His wife, Arlene Olson, Grand Forks; an aunt, June Hedstrom, Fargo, ND;  a brother, Robert “Bob” Olson (Rose), Northwood, ND;  sisters-in-law, Esther Slaughter, Mayville, ND, Clara Evanson, Portland, ND, Katherine Jenkins, Los Angeles, CA, and Caroline Tunseth, Mayville, ND;   numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be  1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church.  Interment will be in Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
