Vernon D. “Vern” Wick, 77, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at home. Vernon Duane Wick was born July 10th, 1939 in Columbus, ND, the son of William and Luella (Miller) Wick. He was raised and educated in Coteau, ND, Minot, ND and Anamoose, ND, graduating from Anamoose High School in 1958. During his school years Vern was very active in sports, especially football. Vern served with the US Marine Corps in California. Upon returning to Minot, ND he attended Minot State College and worked for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. Vern worked in the financial field for 13 years and moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1973. He started his career with Job Service ND where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed spending his retirement winters in Mesa, Az. Vern married Sharon (Wilhelmi) Baer on July 15, 1977 in Crookston, Mn. He loved spending time with his family and treasured each and every one of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was at his best around children and was a wonderful "Grandpa". He had a passion for cars of any kind especially the Classic 55, 56 and 57 Chevrolets. He also enjoyed working with wood and restoring antique furniture. Vern is survived by his wife, Sharon Wick, Grand Forks, ND; children Shannon Wick, Minneapolis, Erin Lindell, Minneapolis and Jay Marter, Minneapolis; step children, Dr. Kristin Baer Kartch, Duluth, MN and Dr. Ryan Baer, Fremantle, Australia; grandchildren Natasha, Dustin, Kody, Kylie, Randi, Addison, Mason; step grandchildren Isabella, Samuel, Essa and Zia; great grandchildren Hunter, Ayriah and Roman; Siblings Eileen Wick, Minot ND, Richard Wick (Kathy), Aurora, CO and Donald Wick (LuAnn), Cando, ND as well as many special neices and nephews. Vern was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Darlene.Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 in Holy Family Catholic Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 Prayer Vigil in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before Mass in the church. Burial will be in Calvary South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
