Paul Flem, 92, Grand Forks, died in his home Thursday, October 13, 2016. Paul was born July 27, 1924 in Petersburg, North Dakota, the son of Herbert and Minnie (Severson) Flem. He grew up in Petersburg, graduating from Petersburg High School. Paul joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater in WWII. After the war, he came back to Petersburg where he married his wife Ida Halstenson on December 7, 1947. They were blessed with 4 children. Together they ran the Café in Petersburg. In 1956, they moved to Grafton, ND where Paul worked at the Standard Oil Station, Mobile Oil Station, City Cab, as a police officer and spent many years working for the John Deere dealership. In 1971, they moved to Minneapolis, MN where he drove truck for Evan’s Transport for many years. Paul loved to fish, cook BBQ, traveling, spending time with his family, and relaxing outside on the patio. Paul is survived by his children: Diane (Terry Aafedt) Lizakowski, Grand Forks, Brad (Kay) Flem, Salisbury, MD, Todd (Ruth) Flem, Andover, MN, Roxanne (Scott Pream ) Zehrer,  Scandia, MN; sister, Leone Rodningen, Grand Forks, nephews: Don Rodningen, Brainerd, MN, Clint Rodningen, Grand Forks, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ida, and his second wife MaryAnne Berdal, and 5 siblings. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:15 a.m. in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
