Alan J. Schuhmacher, 82, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at home, surrounded by family. Alan was born September 8, 1934 in Austin, MN, the son of Johnnie Otto Reinhard Schuhmacher and Bessie (Saman) Schuhmacher. Alan was raised in Austin and worked at a pharmacy during his high school years. He attended Austin Junior College, then completed his degree at North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy. He was active on campus as a member of the Kappa Psi fraternity, the Student Senate, Blue Key and various organizations and earned Ugliest Man on Campus by the Sorority Committee. Alan married Audrey Brekke on November 16, 1956 in Minnewaukan, ND. They lived in Billings, MT where Alan worked as a Pharmacist. He later began a career with White Drug Co. and lived in Jamestown, ND and Fargo, ND before moving to Grand Forks. Alan also was a Director in the North Dakota Hospital Association. In his retirement, Alan provided relief pharmacy work for pharmacies in the area and at Altru Retail Pharmacy. Alan was a great fan and supporter of NDSU. He also enjoyed tennis, golf, racquetball and fishing at Lake of the Woods, all enjoyed with great friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Audrey, Grand Forks; daughter, Julie Schuhmacher, Grand Forks; sons, John (Deborah) Schuhmacher, Minneapolis, MN and Paul (Susan Knudson) Schuhmacher, Shakopee, MN; grandchildren, Adam and Noah; brother, Gary (Brenda) Schuhmacher, Kennewick, WA; nephew, Jonathan Schuhmacher Kennewick, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services will be 11:00 Monday, November 28, 2016 in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks.
