Geneva Loiland

November 14, 1923 — November 24, 2016

  Geneva Loiland died November 24, 2016 at Valley Elder Care.  She was 93 years old.    Geneva was born November 14, 1923 to Harold and Ida (Knutson) Slyvester in Grand Forks, ND.  Her family lived and farmed in rural Thompson, ND.  She attended school in Thompson, ND.  After high school she completed the secretarial course at Aaker's Business School,  and was employed at Gamble Robinson upon graduation.   She married Julian H Loiland on December 7, 1946 and left her job to become a full time homemaker on their farm in rural Thompson, ND.  She and Julian raised four sons and she helped on the farm until his retirement in 1986.   Geneva loved traveling.  Early in their marriage she and Julian spent their winters in California.  That was replaced by family vacations in the station wagon once the boys came along.  She continued to travel with family and friends after her husband passed away.   She was the East Walle Lutheran Church organist for 26 years and was active in the church's ladies circle.  Geneva was an avid card player and loved dancing; Swing, Polka, Square Dancing with Julian and Country Line dancing with her friends.  Once she moved into Valley Elder Care she continued to enjoy music by playing piano for the other residents prior to meals much to their pleasure and appreciation.   Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, brother Orvid, husband Julian and son Steven.   She is survived by sons David (Cynthia) Thompson, ND, Randal (Bernadette), Bel Air, MD, Dean (Christine) Thompson, ND, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, three nieces, one nephew and too many friends to name.  We will miss her style, grace and kindness.Geneva's family wishes to thank the staff of Valley Eldercare.   Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at East Walle Lutheran Church of rural Thompson, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in East Walle Lutheran Church Cemetery.
