Sarah Marie Devine-age 96 of Manvel, North Dakota passed away peacefully, with her daughter Mary Jo by her side on Thursday December 29, 2016. Sarah Marie Matylinski was born at home near Ardoch, ND on August 22, 1920- the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Mokerski) Matylinski. She grew up speaking Polish and attended rural school near Ardoch Lake, Johnstown, and Manvel, ND. She played for the Manvel girls’ basketball team, graduating from Central High School in 1938. Sarah was united in marriage to Joseph Devine on June 26, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. They made their home on the Devine family farm near Manvel. Sarah and Joe were life-long active members of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. They loved dancing together at the East Grand Forks Eagles Club and the Grand Forks Senior Center. They spent many winters enjoying the sunshine in Phoenix, Arizona. Joe passed away on April 22, 2001. Sarah was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed bird watching, tending her large garden, and baking delicious homemade bread. Sarah’s greatest joy was caring for and spending time with her family at the farm. Sarah is survived by her sons; Donald (Rita), Allen-Bud (Joyce) and Wayne (Theresa) Devine of Manvel. Daughters; Shirley (Rich) Derrick of Grand Forks and Mary Jo Devine of Rosemount, Minnesota, twenty-one grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe,brothers- Clem and Theodore (Ted) Matylinski, and sisters- Susan Briske and Elizabeth Erickson, and infant grandchildren Aaron Durand and Mary and Martha Devine. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday January 6, 2017 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Manvel, ND. Interment will be in the spring at St. Timothy’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Thursday January 5, 2017 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Manvel. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery Fund.
