Della H. Eichhorst, 103, Thompson, ND, died Monday, January 9, 2017 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Della Henrietta Zank, the daughter of Frederick and Josephine (Postler) Zank was born January 23, 1913 in Fairchild, Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Fairchild and also attended school there. Della began teaching Sunday School and playing the organ for church services when she was in the 8th grade. She attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN for two years for teaching. She later graduated from Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wisconsin as a nurse. As a student she was affiliated with Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois where she completed one year of post-graduate study. She was employed at Luther Hospital alternating as PM and night nurse supervisor. Della married Edward Eichhorst from Thompson, ND in 1947. In Thompson she taught Sunday School , and for a number of years played organ for church services. She was active in ladies aide, making doughnuts, lefsa, and quiltmaking at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, shopping, and crocheting. She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Perry) Dobmeier, Thompson, ND; grandchildren, Kevin (Anne Bakken) Dobmeier, Kenny (Emily) Dobmeier and their son Levon Dobmeier, and Jon (Kaitlin) Dobmeier; a sister, Albina (Dave) Attwood, Barron, WI; a niece, Diane (Bill) Thums; nephew, Ronald (Linda) Martin; sisters-in-law, Esther Eichhorst, and Olga Eichhorst. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward; her parents, Frederick and Josephine; a brother, Merton Zank, and a niece Cheryl Klatt. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Thompson, North Dakota. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday, January 13, 2017 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Thompson Cemetery.
