Terry Eldon Hanson was born at McVille, North Dakota on July 10, 1937 the son of Hans and Myrtle (Sanden) Hanson. He passed away at Altru Hospital on January 12, 2017 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Terry was raised on farms near McVille until the family moved into town when he was in sixth grade. Terry was confirmed at McVille Lutheran Church and he graduated from McVille High School in 1955 where he excelled in basketball. He received a scholarship to go to Valley City State where he was a standout player. He was known as the “darling of the local fans and pet peeve of the opposition” player according to an article in the Valley City Times. He played there for four years and his team was twice inducted into the Viking Hall of Fame. He graduated in 1959 and went on to teach and coach basketball for five years at Finley, N.D. He then moved to Roseburg, Oregon where he taught business education for the next 30 years and made many lasting friendships. Upon retirement he moved to Sparks, Nevada and worked at a J.C. Penney Outlet. Terry went on a European tour with a friend and was able to see many beautiful countries before moving to Grand Forks to be closer to family. Terry enjoyed his annual trips to Las Vegas. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball and football. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Anita Bunde, niece Pam Castoreno, nephew Gregg Trostad, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his sister, Marilynn Trostad; brothers-in-law Obert Trostad and Merle Bunde; nephew Scott Bunde and niece Janet Agee of Texas; nieces Karen Deziel, Kathy Klang, Cindy Andrade, and Tracey Trostad all of Grand Forks; and several great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in McVille, North Dakota.
