Bernard F Bayliss

Bernard F. Bayliss, 83, Grand Forks, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 in his home. Bernard was born November 13, 1933, in Enderlin, North Dakota, the son of Fred and Mary (Langer) Bayliss.  He graduated from St. Catherine High School in Valley City in 1952.  Bernard then went on the State School of Science in Wahpeton until he joined the Army in 1953 were he served until 1955. On July 24, 1956, Bernard married Loretta Buhr in Page, North Dakota. He went on to NDSU in Fargo, where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957. They moved to Southampton, PA where he worked for The Naval Air Developmental Center. In 1967, they moved to Grand Forks. Bernard went to work as a civil servant at the Grand Forks Air Force Base where he worked on many projects including the “Rivet Mile” until his retirement in 1992. Bernard liked to work on electrical things, fixing TV’s in his spare time. He also liked to travel with his family, going camping, and snowmobiling. Bernard is survived by his wife Loretta, children; Debbie Straub, Grand Forks, ND, Kathy Bayliss, East Grand Forks, MN, Monica (Lynn) Stallman, Petersburg ,ND,  Colleen Martinez, Grand Forks, ND,  Christopher (Nichole) Bayliss, Christine, ND, Kevin Bayliss, Fargo, ND,  sister; Betty Lou Stallman, Buffalo, ND, 17 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard, 1 grandchild, and 2 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
