Lewis M. Urness, 89, of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the Larimore Good Samaritan Center. Lewis Morris Urness was born on a farm east of Leeds, ND, on July 13, 1927, son of Charles & Esther Urness. Later they moved to a farm west of Cando. Following school in Zion, ND he started working on as some of the farms around the area. He enlisted with the US Army and served in Georgia, Kentucky and the Carolinas. Following his honorable discharge he went into construction. Lewis moved to Maddock where he met his wife, Adeline Larson. They were married Nov. 2, 1951 at the North Viking Lutheran Church. They later moved to Grand Forks where they made their home. He then worked as a truck driver until his retirement. He was a hard worker, but the one thing he loved the most was camping. They had a camper and took his family on many trips. Lewis is survived by his wife, Adeline of Grand Forks; sons, Dan Urness of St. Peter, MN, Doug (Becky) Urness of Yankton, SD, Mark (Merlinda) Urness of San Diego, CA; brothers, Jim (Elayne) Urness, Joe (Jean) Urness; sisters, Sonja (Leonard) Johnson, Gloria Brakken and Romana (Cliff) Horner; grandchildren, Ashley, Megan and Zabrina Urness and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 1 sister and 3 brother-in-law’s. **Memorials may be directed to University Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at University Lutheran Church 2122 University Ave. in Grand Forks. Visitation: the hour prior to the service at the church.
