Melvin R. Borst, 86, of Grand Forks passed away Thursday, March 9th at the Aneta Parkview Health Center in Aneta, ND. Melvin was born July 21st, 1930 in White Earth, ND, to the late Erastus and Medora Borst. Melvin enlisted in the Unites States Army and served as Corporal during the Korean War. He grew up and attended school in White Earth, ND. He was united in marriage to Avis LeRohl, December 27, 1953. They were blessed with six children and lived in Grand Forks for the past 51 years. He is survived by his sister, Mable Howell of Stanley, ND; his children Barbara Galloway, Wichita, KS, Janet Fish (Steve), Joanne Graves (Tom), Alan (Betty), and Arden (Wanda), all of Grand Forks; and son-in-law Rod Kahler of Fargo; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis; daughter, Beverly Kahler; and brother, Robert Borst. Melvin will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved his family and someone always willing to lend a helping hand to others in need. In his younger days, nothing made him happier than to be at the lake with his family enjoying good food and boating. The past several years Melvin lived with Alzheimer’s. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Melvin’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, with Rev. John Rieth officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
