Arvelda Wiens, 93, Grand Forks ND, and formerly of rural Munich ND, died in her sleep Monday morning, March 13, 2017 at her home in Parkwood Place. Arvelda (Klein) Wiens was born on November 14, 1923 in Gordon Township, the daughter of George and Anna (Fadenrecht) Klein. She attended rural Gordon School, and graduated from Alsen High School. After one term at Jamestown College, Arvelda earned her teaching certificate at Mayville. She taught one year in a 1-room schoolhouse in Moscow Township before marrying Elmer Wiens on October 4, 1946 at the Rosehill MB Church. Arvelda was active in the community and church, having served as Rosehill’s Sunday School Superintendent, secretary of the Alsen Public School Board, volunteer in Alsen’s elementary classrooms, and president of the Christian Women chapter in Langdon. Her greatest joys included prayer, hospitality, gardening and quilting. Survivors include a son, Roger (Cheri) Wiens, Bisbee AZ; daughters, Nancy Wiens, St. Louis Park MN, Lyn (Tim) Boese, Grand Forks ND, and Linda Wiens, Shoreview MN; grandchildren, Peter Boese, Erin Boese and Mark Boese; brother, Clinton Klein and sister, Dorothy Ewert, both of Langdon ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, and a brother Clayton. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 1400 24th Ave S., Grand Forks. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM with a 6:30 PM family sharing time in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Rosehill MB Cemetery near Munich, ND.
