Genevieve V. “Gen” Hervey, 100, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Valley Memorial Home, Prairieview. Genevieve Peterson was born September 11, 1916 in Badger, MN, the daughter of Arvid and Clara Peterson. Her father was employed with the railroad, so Gen grew up in numerous towns in Minnesota including Shelly, Badger and Gatzke. Being the oldest daughter of 11 children, she helped raise many of her siblings. Gen married Donald Hervey on June 18, 1941 in Euclid, MN. They lived in East Grand Forks, MN for many years where they both worked for American Crystal Sugar. They moved to Chaska, MN where Gen worked for the Gedney’s Pickle Co. They later returned to East Grand Forks before moving to their hobby farm near Bagley, MN. Donald Hervey died on September 21, 1992. After a number of years, Gen moved to Grand Forks and lived at Tufte Manor, and later Valley Memorial Home. Gen had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved her flower garden, quilting, bird watching and was an excellent cook. She was an active member of her church in Bagley, MN. Survivors include her children, Sandra (Mike) Chessnoe, Mark (Susan) Hervey, April McGlynn, and Roy (Lila) Hervey; grandchildren, Steven (Clarissa) Feist, Michelle (Barry) Armstrong, Cassandra Feist, Mike (Shawna) Feist, Michael Chessnoe, Nick (Kristen) Chessnoe, Christel Chessnoe, Thomas (Beth) Hervey, John (Becca) Hervey, Erin (Josh) Jeppesen, Adam McGlynn, Sarah Hervey, Samuel Hervey; great grandchildren, Jack Feist, Kate Feist, Serena Wurtele, Hope Feist, Sky Feist, Trevor Chessnoe, Bryce Chessnoe, Alexis Chessnoe, Kayla Chessnoe, Ryan Chessnoe, Addison Hervey, Quinn Hervey; siblings, Gene (Ann) Peterson, Pat Hervey, Forest Peterson, and Dale Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hervey; her eldest daughter, Renee Feist; brothers, Roy, Don, Vernon, and Larry; sisters, Lorraine and Fern; and a son-in-law, Ronald “Blackie” McGlynn. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
