Ulla Lilian Olson, 83, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Altru Hosptial in Grand Forks, ND. Ulla was born March 17, 1934, in Bergsjo, Sweden, the daughter of Nathan & Eida Forsell.Ulla married Chester Olson (died 11-19-2002) on June 2, 1953 in Germany. After arriving in Grand Forks Ulla began studying to receive her United States Citizenship. Ulla began her working career at the Deaconess Hospital Dining/Coffee shop and then trained to work in the Deaconess Hospital Medical records, also known as United Hospital. Ulla retired from Altru Hospital as Director of Medical Records. In retirement she helped her husband with their Olson Tree Service. Ulla and Chester made many trips to Sweden to visit her parents and extended family, she was very proud of her heritage. Ulla enjoyed her weekly calls to/from her family & friends back in Sweden. Ulla was a long time Sioux Hockey Fan starting back when they played in the barn. Watching Hockey in the barn was cold, but she wore her Swedish boots and fur coat to stay warm and enjoyed the game. She also had enjoyed skiing, fishing & camping. She said that she learned to knit as a kid. She was an excellent knitter, often using a Swedish pattern. Ulla had a special spot in her heart for her dogs & cats. Ulla was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, The Swedish Heritage society, Gyda Varden Sons of Norway lodge. Survivors include her step-daughter, Elizabeth Bogman of Belgium; grandchildren, Nicole (Davy) of Belgium and Chester (Rita) of Pennsylvania; three great-grandchildren, cousins in Sweden, and many nieces and nephews & special friends. She was preceded by her husband, her parents and brother. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Visitation: One hour prior to the service.
