Verlin Dean Vesey, 72, Grand Forks, passed away April 22, 2017 from cancer at Palliative Care of Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Verlin was born in Fargo, ND on November 9, 1944. He was the son of Mabel and Darlan Vesey of Blaisdell, ND. He worked for his parents on their farm until his graduation from Palermo High School. After graduation, he worked several construction jobs. Verlin married Ona Jorde on December 20, 1962 on Ona’s parent’s 33 wedding anniversary. Verlin and Ona moved to Grand Forks when their son Brian started school. Verlin worked for American Crystal Sugar, East Grand Forks, MN for 34 years until his retirement in 2010. Verlin and Ona have 2 children, Annette and Brian, and a granddaughter, Laura who is a nurse in a cancer center in Las Angeles, CA. Verlin’s hobbies were hunting, fishing and 4-wheeling. He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Middle Grove Lutheran Church in Grand Forks County. Verlin was also awarded several trophies for marksmanship while he was serving on the police force in Fairview, MT. Verlin is survived by his wife, Ona of 54 years; daughter, Annette; son, Brian; granddaughter, Laura; sister-in-law, Peggy (Vernon) Herberg and their family, Molly, Evan and Anita; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pearl and Oliver Jorde. Verlin will be greatly missed by friends and family. He was unwavering in his faith and believed in God and in prayer. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Middle Grove Lutheran Church near Mekinock, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church.
