Thomas “Tom” Shaw, 75, Grand Forks, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 in Altru Hospital. Thomas was born, March 23, 1942 in San Bernardino, California, the son of Jesse and Anna (Weber) Shaw. When Tom was 3, the family moved to Maxbass, ND. He grew up and was educated in Maxbass, graduating from Maxbass High School. He then attended school in Bottineau, ND for 2 years. Tom was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge, Tom moved to Grand Forks where he attended The University of North Dakota. Tom married BJ Johnson in 1968 in Kennedy, MN. They made their home in Grand Forks where Tom worked until retirement. Tom was very proud of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Tom liked to read books, tend to his garden, work on crossword puzzles, play cards with his family and friends, and on Thursdays, having lunch and playing Bingo at the Senior Center. He always enjoyed going to his retirement job every day at K-mart. Tom is survived by his wife BJ, daughter Andrea (Scott) Hensrud, Crookston, MN, son Matthew (Jennifer) Shaw, Big Lake, MN, siblings Randy Shaw, Nehawka, NE, Veda Nicholsen, Souris, ND, Mike (Norma) Shaw, Mohall, ND, grandchildren: Kyle, Christopher, Mikayla, Mia, Caitlyn, Kristen, Adam, Amber, great grandchildren: Elijah, Noah, Odin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher, and his brother Teddy. Memorial service will be held, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
