Alvin Buran, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his home in Grand Forks. Al was born July 20, 1928. He was raised on the family farm of his parents, Albert and Regina (Lian) Buran of Makoti, ND. Al was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended area schools. Al Buran and Lois Haugen were married on September 25, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ryder, ND. For four years Al managed a large grain and beef farm near Hazelton, ND. Later, after a move to Minot, ND, Al established and operated Al’s Surge Service at Minot. Al sold, installed, and serviced the first surge milking parlors in western North Dakota. In 1961 Al sold his Surge business and with Lois and his family moved to Grand Forks. He was employed in sales for Northern Plumbing Supply for 33 years. He enjoyed retirement, vacationing, and having coffee with his friends. Al is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois; sons, James and Sheldon, both of Grand Forks; daughter, Jacalyn (Dale) Larson, Southlake, TX; sister-in-law, Alyce Carlson, Gresham, OR; brothers-in-law, Dr. Orleane Haugen, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Donald Haugen, Minot, ND, and Lawrence Haugen, Ft. Collins, CO. Al was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Edythe, Minnie, Sarah, Ruth, Olga, and Ione. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
