Ardus Severt Nelson, age 71, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 in Grand Forks. Ardus Severt Nelson was born October 12th, 1945, son of Art and Mary (Miller) Nelson. He was confirmed at United Lutheran Church, attended grade school at Oakville #32 and graduated high school at Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston, MN. He enlisted in the Navy, January 8th, 1964 and spent the next four years traveling through Alaska, South Vietnam and Japan. He was discharged December 18th, 1967. In 1971 he returned home to Emerado and joined his brother, John, in farming. Ardus farmed until the early 80’s, and then worked in the Civil Service Department at the Grand Forks Air Force Base until his retirement in 2007. Ardus married Eunice Blomquist Vanscoy on December 30, 1992 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Their joys were many, but loved their grandchildren, times at Devils Lake and numerous trips south to Kansas City and Austin. Ardus is survived by his wife, Eunice of Grand Forks; sons, Richard (Adam Dunn) Nelson of Austin, TX, Ryan (Tanya) Nelson of Bismarck, Randall (Sabrina) Nelson of Bismarck; step-daughters, Jill (Chris) Van Horn of Kansas City, MO, Amy (Jesse Weber) Vanscoy of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Briahnna, Austin, Hannah, Jacob, Leo, Julianna, Halle, Ashley, Emily; great-grandchildren, Liam, Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Darlyne (Stanley) Sand & Marion Nelson; brothers, John & Richard Nelson. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, at Sharon Lutheran Church 1720 S 20th St in Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 31, from 6-8 PM with prayer service at 7:30 PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
