Robert R. Lofthus

Robert R. Lofthus, 92, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in 4004 Valley Square Woodside Village, Grand Forks. Robert Richard Lofthus was born to Richard and Hilda (Olson) Lofthus on June 4, 1925 at McVille, North Dakota.  He was raised and educated at McVille.  Robert served in the US Army during World War II.  Robert Lofthus and Mavis Billings were united in marriage on November 23, 1952 at Lakota, North Dakota. They lived and farmed in rural McVille. Following his career as a farmer he served as the driver for the Nelson County Senior Citizen’s Bus until 1995. Robert was an avid follower of political events, a supporter of the proposed Garrison Diversion Project and an active member at the Grand Forks Senior Center, where he forged numerous friendships. He will be remembered for his devotion to his faith, family, friends and church. Highlights of his family life included trips to the Black Hills and Idaho, and annual trips to Family Bible Camps at Lake Geneva, Minnesota. Robert is survived by his sons, Richard, Yankton, South Dakota, Jeffrey, Juneau, Alaska, Paul, Bismarck, North Dakota, Russell (Nancy), Luverne, Minnesota, David (Susie), Metairie, Louisiana, and Philip (Kim), Pipestone, Minnesota;  grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Eve, Richard, Brett, Andrew, Adam, Grant, Rebekah, Rachel, and Taylor;  great-grandson, Colin;  and close friend, Betty Anderson, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mavis; and all of his brothers and sisters, June, Norma, Eva, Bjorn, and Noel.  Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 in Trinity Free Lutheran Church, 3426 Chestnut St, Grand Forks.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.  Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at New Luther Valley Cemetery, rural McVille, North Dakota.
