E. Maxine Block, 85, of Grand Forks, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, under the care of hospice, surrounded by her loving family.Maxine was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Reynolds, ND, the daughter of Ben & Tilda (Tweten) Larson. She graduated from Reynolds High School and Aaker’s Business College.Maxine married Neil D. Block on May 11, 1951 in Grand Forks. Following their marriage they lived in Grand Forks until Neil graduated from the University of North Dakota. At the end of Neil’s honorable service to the US Air Force, they returned to live at the family farm in Thompson, ND, where she raised her family.She was the secretary of the family farming business. Maxine was an active member of many Thompson community organizations. She held offices in the Thompson Federated Women’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Walle Lutheran Church WELCA and Circle.Maxine thoroughly enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events, going to Arizona in the winter months and spending time at the family cabin on Maple Lake. She is survived by her loving husband and dance partner, Neil Block; children, Terry (Ilene) Block, Susan (Bob) Moe, Robert (Daniela) Block, Richard (Laura) Block and Stacey (Danny) Grunewald; sisters, Beverly Beaver and Carmen Bohlman; grandchildren, William (Kori) Block, Kjai (Maggie) Block, Joshua ( Lindsey) McMenamy, Chelsey (Tyler) Woods, Alexander Block, Andrew(Courtney) Block , Brandon Block, Dana (Jason Perreault) Grunewald, Kelsey Grunewald, Scott Grunewald; step-grandchildren, Chris (Gayle) Moe and Kari Moe; 10 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jacque Block.Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; mother/father-in-law, Mary & William Block; brother & wife, Henry and Ona Mae Larson; brother-in-law, Lloyd Bohlman; granddaughter, Janelle Block and brother/sister-in-law, William E. Block and (first wife) Margaret.**Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Altru Hospice.MEMORIAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Walle Lutheran Church in rural Thompson, ND.VISITATION: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service at the church.INURNMENT: Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks.
