Barb Secord

September 25, 1941 — August 19, 2017

Barbara “Barb” Jean Secord, 75, of Grand Forks, ND went “Home” to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the presence of her loving family at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.   Barbara Jean Secord was born September 25, 1941 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Delmen Cote and Edna (Olson) Cote.  Barbara attended Lincoln School in Thief River Falls, MN; and East Grand Forks Sacred Heart.   Growing up in Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks, Barb carried many of the small town values and ideals from her childhood to her family and throughout life. Her interests were many; she grew up loving country music, dancing, ice skating, great conversation and a desire to have a family.   Barb married Carroll Bernard Bateman in 1957 and during their marriage brought three beautiful children into the world; Julie Lynn (passed 1958), Michael George, and Cynthia Lou.  Barb married Henry “Gene” Eugene Secord on June 1st 1963 in Grand Forks.  Barb’s daughter and son (Michael and Cyndi) and Gene’s three daughters (Penny, Debby, and Stacey) became a family; they went on to have a daughter (Jewel Lynn) and a son (Jon Glenn) together and continued to live in Grand Forks where Barb was a homemaker.     While raising seven children was often challenging, it would ultimately become a wonderful legacy of who she was, who she became and her faith in God’s promises and in His son Jesus Christ her Lord.  She often said that the Holy Spirit came alongside her and helped her accomplish many tasks that she needed to complete or figure out.  After Gene’s passing on May 13, 2003 Barb went on to a life without the “love of her life”.  While there was a void, Barb’s journey was filled with many wonderful times, experiences and memories shared with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She was so grateful for all who had contributed to and made deposits into her life.   Barb was a loving wife and mother, and all who knew her well, experienced her friendship, grace and love. She was a woman who walked out her faith daily and that walk can only be described as one of honor, grace, humility, and kindness.  Barb loved the Lord, honored her parents, cherished her husband, and loved her children. She is loved and will be missed and she is “Home”.   Barb is survived by: Children: Cyndi (Terry) Arnold – Port Angeles, Washington, Michael (Connie) Bateman – Grand Forks, ND - Jewel (Greg) Mattison – Granbury, Texas - Jon (Melissa) Secord – Grand Forks, ND - Penny Holter – Grand Forks, Debby (Jesse) Conner – Salt Lake City, , Stacey (Robin) Purcell – Grand Forks,.  Grandchildren: Kristopher Dallmann, Brittany Secord, Kailey Secord, Tammy (Rod) Oas, Marco Holter, Jr., Nickolas (Victoria) Holter, Joshua Lee Conner, Jaime Lynn Conner, Julie Ann Conner, Jennifer Marie Conner, Jill Michelle Conner, December (Justin) Carr, Brannon Tangwall, Rylan Purcell, Jennifer Purcell, Kristen (Mike) DiMaggio, Ashton Purcell, Jake (Jacey) Mattison, Karlie Mattison; and many Great Grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.   Visitation will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service and sharing at 7:00 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND.  Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
