Melvin R. “Mel” Bugbee, 89, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in his home in Grand Forks. Melvin Ray Bugbee was born January 24th, 1928 in Sherbrook, ND, the son of Loren and Bessie (Loomis) Bugbee. He was raised and educated at Sherbrook. Melvin began working for the county operating road graders and snow plow equipment. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Melvin married Amy Walters on February 17, 1951 in Phoenix City, AL. Following Mel’s military service, they moved to Hawthorne, CA to help with the war effort. They purchased a farm near Sharon, ND and later moved to Finley, ND where Mel raised sheep and cattle. He worked as a lineman for Sheyenne Valley Electric for 25 years. He also worked with the U.S. Civil Service at Finley and moved to Grand Forks in 1978 where he continued his Civil Service employment at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.Mel enjoyed riding bike, having coffee at McDonalds with family and friends and entertaining his family with his dry humor. Survivors include his wife, Amy (of 66 years), Grand Forks; daughter, Laura Olson, Grand Forks; son, Larry (Jane) Bugbee, New Brighton, MN; grandchildren, Kristin, Lucas, Tyler and Katie. Mel was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Dan, Steve, Leslie, Marion, Hazel and Eva. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Zion Methodist Church in Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion Methodist Church.
