Judy Ann Schmitz, 64, of Mekinock, ND was called home to the Lord on November 1, 2017 at 6:15 pm. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND. Judy’s life seems too short to many, but those who were touched by her beautiful smile and warm laughter understand why God called her home as He only takes the best. Judy was born on April 16, 1953 in Langdon, ND to James and Laurette (Marcotte) Zettel. She was raised in Langdon with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, attended St. Alphonsus elementary school, and graduated from Langdon High School as Valedictorian. Following high school, Judy attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. Judy married Glenn Schmitz on September 16, 1975 and moved to Mekinock, ND where they resided and were happily married for 42 years. Judy was a Professional Administrator for Schmitz, Inc. and Schmitz Farms. She maintained 100% accuracy with bookkeeping even during government audits. Judy enjoyed walks around the farm, shopping, camping, fishing, boating, trike rides, classic car rides, deer hunting, spending time with her grandchildren, and a tall skinny sugarless vanilla latte. Family and friends were very important to Judy and she would eagerly attend social gatherings with a hearty laugh and warm heart which would fill the room. Spare moments from bookkeeping, although few, were spent shopping for colorful scarves and bright colored shirts for the next social gathering. Judy is survived by her husband, Glenn; son Brent (Tina Frisch); daughter Carey (Brad Haugen) all of Mekinock, ND; step-daughter Julie (Scott Johnson) of Grand Forks, ND and 10 grandchildren: Sara, Benjermin, Matthew, Samantha, McKenzey, Holly, Karley, Amber, Haley, and Jessica. She also leaves behind her parents, James and Laurette Zettel; siblings Audrey (Arlyn Pearson); Betty Kroetsch; Sandy (Dan Filipi), Jeff (Julie) Zettel; John (Joan) Zettel; and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. Judy was preceded in death by Merle (Betty) Kroetsch. Visitation will be held at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 5 – 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm.
