Darrell Wayne Julson, 83, of Grand Forks, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks. Darrell was born June 4, 1934, in Grand Forks, the son of Jul & Cora (Berg) Julson. He grew up and attended schools in Grand Forks. Darrell married Claire Murphy on Feb. 19, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in Grand Forks. He joined the US Army in 1956. During his service they lived in Colorado, Hawaii and Virginia prior to his honorable discharge in 1958. Darrell worked for the GF Herald and he and Claire opened the Lazy D Western Store which they owned and operated from 1976 until their retirement in 1996. Darrell had a love for horses. He was active in local horse clubs and was awarded Horseman of the year. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends & family. He is survived by his wife, Claire; nieces, Nancy (Bob) Stroh, Peggy (David) Hillebrand, Kathy Spoor, Jodi (Jay) Tescher and Candy (Jay) Tippett; nephews, Mark Landa, Jon (Lori) Landa, Scott (Danean) Landa and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters, Ferris Rye, Gloria Pich, Madlyn Garlinger and Marlys Julson. **In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: Friday, Nov. 10 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7pm prayer service at Amundson’s. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the funeral service. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
