CORCORAN, Larry Duane, age 79, of Grand Forks peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 21, in Altru Hospital surrounded by love of family, after a battle against cancer. Larry was born October 11, 1938 in Grand Forks, ND to Raymond Sr. and Mella Corcoran. He graduated from Central High School in 1956. Larry worked as a Construction Manager Plant Facilities at Altru Hospital, (formerly Deaconess Hospital, then United Hospital) and retired, after 35 years of service to the hospital, on September 25, 2006. Larry married Judith “Judy” Corcoran on December 18, 1973 in Sisseton, South Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks following their marriage. Larry, a racing fanatic, began his racing career at the age of 15. Larry went on to have a successful racing career from 1953-1976 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. He was inducted into the first Hall of Fame class at The River Cities Speedway in 1999. Larry was a longtime member of the Eagles and was awarded a lifetime gold membership for community service. Larry was known around Grand Forks as the “man driven to light the winter nights.” He received the Grand Forks Board of Realtors “Deck the House” Award in 1987 and his house was deemed “The Complete Christmas Package.” He received immense pleasure out of lighting up his house (and probably his neighbor’s houses, too) from Thanksgiving to New Years for people to enjoy. It excited him to watch the numerous cars drive past the house to see all his creations. Larry was one of the genuine good guys and will be remembered as a man of character, strength, and selflessness. He will be deeply missed by all. Larry is survived by his children: Tim (Christy) Corcoran, South Lyon, Michigan, Renae (Bennett) Boulduc, Cypress, Texas, Lori Corcoran, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Teri and Kevin; grandchildren, Krystal, Tyler, Kelsey, Mitch Nerby, Reilly; 3 great-grandchildren, Christian, Kyliegh, Christina; his siblings, Jim Corcoran, Marian Strom, Harriet Hannah. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy, parents, Raymond Sr and Mella, brothers, Raymond Jr “Red”, and Harold “Corky”. Celebration of Life will be from 12:00-2:30pm Friday, November 24, 2017 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment will follow in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
