Dorothy Idelle Bennett, age 90 of Thompson, peacefully passed away at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville on November 24, 2017 surrounded by love of family after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born July 25, 1927 in Thief River Falls, MN to Bert and Inga Geving. She graduated from Thief River Falls’ Lincoln High School in 1946. She went on to attend Concordia College and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. Dorothy’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She attended and was very active at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, where she was in several committees, including the Altar Guild, Decorating Committee, New Member Committee and helping out wherever help was needed. She also belonged to several other organizations, including music club, dance club, Bible study club, Thompson Federated Women’s club, Red Hatters society and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed being involved. Dorothy was married to Gordon Bennett for 42 years. She will be greatly missed by her husband and family. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gordon, children Bruce Gustavson (Daphne), Grand Forks, Jim Gustavson, Thompson, David Gustavson, Jupiter, FL, Nancy (Craig) Smith, Fargo, ND and granddaughters Toni and Kelsi Vilandre. She was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Inga Geving, stepson, Jerry Bennett and sister, Marian Adolphson. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gordon, children Bruce Gustavson (Daphne), Grand Forks, Jim Gustavson, Thompson, David Gustavson, Jupiter, FL, Nancy (Craig) Smith, Fargo, ND, granddaughters Toni and Kelsi Vilandre and sister Muriel (Dave) Berg, Waterville, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Inga Geving, stepson, Jerry Bennett and sister, Marian Adolphson. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Luther Memorial Home at Mayville or Hospice of the Red River Valley. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
