Richard “Diddy” Quesnell, 91, Grand Forks, ND, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at home. He was born July 14, 1926 in Crookston, MN, the son of Harris and Jennie Quesnell. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School. He attended the University of North Dakota before entering the U. S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. Diddy returned to Grand Forks and was employed by the Great Northern Railways as a breakman and conductor for 17 years. He then entered the private sector of business. His passion, which started early in his life at age 12, was boxing. He was on the Olympic coaching staff in Thailand, Germany, and Canada and was a scale master in numerous Olympic competitions. He was proud to serve with the 1996 Olympic team in Atlanta, GA. Diddy’s devotion to the YMCA which he joined in 1938 was constant. Late in life he entered the Catholic Faith. Diddy married Margaret Shaft on October 15, 1946. She died April 16, 1998. Survivors include his children, Andrea (Gary) Seczko, Fargo, ND, Barbara (Jeff) Colby, Chaska, MN, Janet (Michael) Sherette, Grand Forks, ND, Beth (Peter) Bouley, Grand Forks and Raymond (Diane) Quesnell, Clive, IA; grandchildren, Brian Seczko, Amy miller, Laura Pitschka, Alexia Stein, John Colby, Jennie Colby, Scott Sherette, Carrie Huber, Katie Haas, Grant Bouley, Taryn Quesnell and Ryan Quesnell; 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; siblings, Roland Quesnell, Raymond Quesnell, Gerald Quesnell, Harris Quesnell, Lucille Kmetz, VeDrenia Kruse and Pearl Quesnell; grandson, Cory Bouley; great grandson, Gabriel Stein. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks. Memorials are asked to be directed to the YMCA Partner of Youth Program.
