Lawrence B. Hadland, 93, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Grand Forks. Lawrence was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 16, 1924 to Bertal and Violet (Juneau) Hadland. The family soon moved to Grand Forks where Lawrence attended schools. After school, he was in the CCC, the Civilian Conservation Corps for eighteen months. He also worked briefly for the Great Northern Railroad. On December 16, 1942, he married Joyce Hansen. After working in Oregon for a time, they returned to Grand Forks and Lawrence worked for Armour & Company and later at the Central Heating plant at the Grand Forks Air Force Base until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6 and the Disabled American Veterans. Lawrence served in WWII in the Pacific Theater as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he won the Philippine Liberation Medal and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Lawrence is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Hank) Heffern; sons, Larry (Elaine) Hadland and Rodney (Deborah) Hadland; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; and by sisters, Laverne, Phyllis and Marilyn. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #6.
