Alice R. Vollmers, 98, Grafton, ND died January 2, 2018 in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton. Alice was born August 14, 1919, to Herman and Mary Fridgen in Dumont, MN. She was the oldest of six children. Alice graduated from Wheaton High School, Wheaton, MN in 1927. She married Walter Vollmers, Sr. on April 30, 1939. They had six children, Gerald, Darrel, Kathleen, Barbara, Leonard, and Walter Jr. Walter Sr. was a grain elevator manager, and they lived in several towns before settling in Drayton, ND, where Alice enjoyed curling, golfing, and spending time at Lake of The Woods fishing. After the death of Walter Sr. in 1965, Alice went to work for Drayton Public School. She was the secretary there for 23 years until her retirement. Alice lived in the same house for 52 years before moving to Tisdale Manor in Drayton for 2 ½ years. Due to health reasons, she moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton in August of 2006. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hollands, Mesa, AZ, her son Walter (Judy), Bismarck, ND, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren, sister Jeanne (Bob) Kvick. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Sr, sons Gerald, Darrel, Leonard, and daughter Barbara. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton in Alice’s name. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
