Denise Alvina Hunter, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Saturday January 13th, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. Denise was born in Grand Forks, ND on July 19th, 1950 to Dennis and Doris (Bogert) Hunter. She grew up in Gilby, ND attending Gilby Elementary and graduating from Midway High School in 1968. She later went on to UND to work on a degree in Social Work. Denise held several jobs throughout her life. Working the Johnstown Bar and Store for her parents was among her most memorable. She loved to attend the many events that were held there and was known for her beautiful voice and the sparkle in her eyes as she sang her favorite songs. Denise enjoyed many hobbies. She was interested in architecture and loved drafting floor plans, had an avid interest in geography and she spent several years tracking down various family members building an extensive genealogy collection. Denise raised three children, whom she was very proud and supportive. She was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts and a Troop Leader for Girl Scouts. Denise was also blessed with three grandsons and found her true calling in life as a grandmother. Her three boys were the light of her life. She would spend her time with them watching movies, playing games, and enjoying their company. Denise is survived by her children, Dana Bigelow, Dale Thompson, Debi (Angelique) Bigelow-Davis of Grand Forks, ND; 3 grandchildren Dominick (18), Devlin (13), and Gabriel (10); sisters, Darlene Hughes, Debra (Mike) Close, Diane (David) Carlson, Denelle (Scott) Hunter; brothers Donnie and Darrin Hunter as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, several aunts and uncles and brother-in law Bob. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Denise at Altru Hospital and Valley Eldercare of Grand Forks. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Prairie Home Cemetery, Gilby, ND.
