Richard Bradsteen Sr.

July 10, 1932 — January 29, 2018

Richard James Bradsteen, Sr., Retired Chief Master Sergeant, USAF, 85, Grand Forks, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Bethany on University, in Fargo, ND.  Richard was born July 10, 1932, in Gardner, North Dakota to Milton and Esther (Lawrence) Bradsteen.  He grew up in Arthur, North Dakota attending school until he enlisted into the United States Air Force in November 1950.  Richard married Anna Marie Eide on March 27, 1953 in Fargo, ND.  He proudly served his country for 30 years.  Richard was stationed at several bases across the United States, Europe and served in Vietnam from 1966-67.  He retired from the U.S. Air Force while stationed at Grand Forks in 1980.  Richard and Anna Marie have resided in Grand Forks for 40 years.  In 1984, Richard graduated from the University of North Dakota with a BA in Accounting.  He started a second career in Finance at the Grand Forks Air Base until his retirement 1996.   Richard was past Commander of the Grand Forks DAV Post #2.  He and Anna Marie enjoyed their summers at Devils Lake and winters in Apache Junction, AZ.  They like to travel to spend time with family in Alaska and Minnesota.  Richard loved to fish, garden, cheer for his Detroit Tigers and was a whiz at solving crossword puzzles.  He will be remembered by family and friends for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, intelligence and love of family and country.  Richard is survived by his; children, Dorothy Forbes of Grand Forks, Richard Bradsteen Jr. of Spokane, WA, Barbara (Michael) Deede of Plymouth, MN; twin brothers, Harold (Karen) and Howard (Darlene); sisters, Mary (Melvin) Schramm, Mildred (David) Bjerke; grandchildren Kevin, Jessica, Laura, John and Sarah; great-grandchildren Myles and Callahan; and many nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna Marie, brothers Glen, Gordon, Andrew, Joseph, Donald, and sister Rose. Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN on Wednesday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Bethany on University to acknowledge the wonderful care Richard received.
