Ronald Wimpfheimer

June 28, 1932 — February 19, 2018

Ronald W. Wimpfheimer, 85, North Platte, NE and formerly of Grand Forks, ND, died peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018.  Ronald was born June 28, 1932 on the family farm near Hensel, ND. He was raised in  Cavalier, ND where he graduated from high school in 1950. Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Europe and Africa as an airplane mechanic.  At that time, he was also a mechanic for the Air Force Trailblazers, (now know as the Thunderbirds).  After his military service, he returned to Grand Forks and completed a degree in accounting at  Aaker’s  Business College. Upon his graduation from Aaker’s, he worked in the offices of the State Mill and Elevator as a bookkeeper. He spent his career at the State Mill and worked his way up to Chief Accountant until he retired. Ron moved to Nebraska in 2006 to be closer to his daughter, son in law, and grandsons of whom he lived with until just prior to his death.  Ronald served as president of the Grand Forks Optimist Club for many years. He was very active in the Wesley United Methodist Church. He also loved fishing and traveling, but he was most dedicated to his family and devoted his life giving to others. Survivors include his daughter, Renee (Joe) Engler, North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Kaleb and Seth; sisters, Janice (Ralph) Marto and Sharon Byzewski (Steve Phelps), both of Grand Forks; brother, Ken (Michele) Peterson, Bellingham, WA; aunts, Virginia Wimpfheimer, Cavalier, ND and Frances Brady, Lebanon, MO; and many nieces and nephews.  Ronald was preceded in death by his sister, June and by brothers, Bill, Jerry, and Bobby Lee. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND in the spring.  Military honors will be provided by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard, The American Legion Post #157 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3817.
