Robert D. “Bob” Stewart, 89, formerly of Gilby, North Dakota, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 in 4000 Valley Square – Woodside Village, Grand Forks. Robert David Stewart, the son of John Colin Stewart and Eleanor (Trowbridge) Stewart was born on July 24, 1928 at Fargo, North Dakota. He was raised and educated at Gilby and graduated from Gilby High School. He continued his education at NDAC, graduating from NDSU in 1954. Bob served in the US Marine Corps, both during World War II and later during the Korean War. Bob farmed in the Gilby area all of his life and being a steward of the soil brought him much happiness. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Bob was a member of Gilby Presbyterian Church, Gilby American Legion, a life member of VFW, and served on the Prairie Home Cemetery Board. Bob married Robin Lorraine Hess on December 20, 1995. Robin died March 29, 1997. Bob is survived by two brothers, Bill (Frances) Stewart, Grand Forks, and James (JoAnn) Stewart, West Fargo, North Dakota; a niece, Lynn Stewart; nephews, Bob, Lee, Jeff, Reid, and Gregg Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Jack Stewart; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stewart, and Marjorie Stewart; a nephew, James, and an infant nephew, Kirk. Funeral Services with military honors will be 5 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Prairie Home Cemetery, Gilby, North Dakota.
