Shirley M. Bostrom, 86, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Shirley May Henderson was born May 25, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Gilbert and Louise (Kohnen) Henderson. She was raised at Long Lake in the Minneapolis area until her family moved to Bismarck, ND where Shirley graduated from high school in 1949. She graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College in 1951. Shirley taught school in Ray, ND and Lewistown, MT, before coming to Grand Forks where she taught at Wilder School. Shirley married Raymond Bostrom on September 20, 1957. They lived in Grand Forks where they raised their family. Shirley’s first priority was her family and being involved in their activities. However, she was also involved in numerous community organizations including leadership positions in the YWCA, Republican Women, United Hospital Board of Directors, the First Presbyterian Church, Alpha Chi Omega, PEO, and was Beta Sigma Phi’s Woman of the Year. Survivors include her children, Barbara (Paul) Nistler, Grand Forks, Bo Bostrom, Grand Forks, Susan (Rick Abrahamson) Bostrom, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Maggie, Tom, Annie and Carrie Nistler, Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Joy Bostrom, Grand Forks. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; and by a brother James Henderson. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2018 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
