Russell William Hoverson, 91, Grand Forks, formerly of Niagara, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in Woodside Village, Valley 4000. Russell was born April 29, 1926 in Elk Mont Township, Rural Niagara, North Dakota, the son of Laurence and Minnie (Everson) Hoverson. He was baptized on July 15, 1926 near Mekinock by O.T. Ness, and he was confirmed on November 14, 1942 in Elk Valley Lutheran Church. Russell was united in marriage to Jean Alme on July 16, 1947. Russell lived and worked on the family farm where he raised crops and cattle for 84 years. He retired from farming in 2004. He then started restoring antique tractors. He restored 10 tractors before they moved to Grand Forks. Russell started working on quilts with Jean. He tied over 500 quilts that were given to family and nonprofit groups around the area. Russell was a member of the Elk Valley Church Council, served on the Fordville School Board, and on the Fordville Elevator Board. He loved spending time with his family. Russell is survived by his wife Jean, son Larry (Marlys), their children: Jeff (Joanne) and their children: Caleb, John, Khristian, Lydia, Victoria, Ezekiel; son Jonathan (Shelane) and their children: Kellie, Cassidy, Jamie; daughter Julie (Scott) Porsburg and their son Nicholas, son Roger (Sonia) and their son Zachary (Nicole) and his children: Jeorgia and Ellie; son Lyle (Debby) and their children Sarah, Katie (Max) and their children Elijah, Sophie; sister Bernice Machovsky, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kenneth, daughter Joni Kay, brothers: Arthur, Albert, Gilbert, Victor, Chester, sisters: Lois, Ella, Edna, Leila, Leola, and Arlene. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Elk Valley Lutheran Church, McCanna, ND. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
