Gerald "Turk" Arthur Devine

November 1, 1941 — March 15, 2018

Gerald A. “Turk” Devine, 76, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 15th, 2018 at home under the care of Altru Hospice and his loving family. Gerald Arthur Devine was born November 1, 1941 in Grand Forks, ND to Gervase and Eunice Devine.  Gerald grew up in Manvel, ND and attended Manvel Public School. In 1960, Gerald enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1964.  He was most proud to have served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  During his service in the US Navy, he served aboard the USS Bigelow Destroyer and USS Antietam Aircraft Carrier.  Upon returning from his service in the Navy, Gerald met his future wife, Donna Nagle.  Gerald and Donna were married on August 26, 1965. They had three children and recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.  Gerald owned and operated Devine’s Water Hauling Service of Manvel for a short period of time and also worked as a Brakeman for Great Northern Railway before he began working for the Finley Rader Base as a civil service Boiler Operator in November 1966. In 1972, he transferred to the Grand Forks Air Force Base and continued his work as a Boiler Operator.  In 1997, Gerald retired as the Foreman of the Grand Forks Air Force Base Heating Plant. After his retirement in 1997, one of his favorite pastimes was working for Knudson Farms of Manvel, ND. The highlight of his retirement was spending time with his four grandchildren, Jakob, Grace, Jayden, and Jarrett, who were his pride and joy. Gerald was known as “Turk” to those that knew him best. Turk was a friend to all he knew.  He enjoyed telling stories, had a knack for fixing anything that was broken, and looked forward to riding his Harley with Donna and his fellow motorcycle riders.  Always a kid at heart, Turk gravitated toward children with his silly antics and funny faces.  During the warm months in North Dakota, you could find Turk having morning coffee at McDonald’s with his buddies and in the frigid North Dakota winters he escaped to Lake Havasu, AZ with Donna and friends. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Grand Forks and also a member of the Manvel American Legion Post #299. Gerald is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Jacqueline (Jeff) Roberts of East Grand Forks, MN; son, Garrett Devine of Los Angeles, CA; and daughter, Angela (Adam) Jonasson of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Grace Roberts, Jakob, Jayden, and Jarrett Jonasson, siblings, James (Joanne) Devine of Seattle WA; Veronica (Roger) Stadstad, Manvel, ND; Darlene (Roger) Hoverson Grand Forks, ND; Howard (Connie) Devine, Manvel, ND; Hugh Devine Grand Forks, ND; Colleen (Darryl) Hendrickson, Manvel, ND; Phyllis (Dennis) Wisk, Buckley, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
