Kenneth L. Maier, age 72 of Emerado, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Washington Lutheran Church of rural Northwood. Burial in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Kenneth L. Maier, a son of Henry and Caroline (Holweger) Maier, was born on October 31, 1945 at Northwood. He grew up near Emerado, ND and graduated from Larimore High School in 1963. On November 9, 1965 he entered the US Army. Kenneth was honorably discharged on November 8, 1967. He returned to the Emerado area and began working. On November 28, 1970 he was married to Karen Olson at Thief River Falls, MN. They lived in Grand Forks for a short time. In 1974 they moved to a farm near Emerado. Kenneth Worked at Sand Steel Building Company in Emerado. Later he began farming with his father and brother Allen. Kenneth also repaired electric motors with his brother Allen. In 1990 he began working at the New Flyer Bus Company in Grand Forks. Kenneth retired in 1993 because of health issues. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, visiting, spending time with family and driving around looking at crops in the area. He is survived by his wife Karen at home; sons, Joshua (Jamie) Maier of Tigard, OR and Benjamin Maier of Raytown, MO; daughters, Heidi (Eivind) Sagstad of Frekhaug, Norway and Megan (Michael) Klocek of Belle Fourche, SD; grandchildren, Grace Maier, Madeline Maier, Bjorn Sagstad, Emily Sagstad, Olivia Sagstad, Kaleb Klocek, Braxton Klocek and Alexandra Klocek; brothers, Bob (Crystal) Maier and Allen (Mary) Maier; sisters, Nancy (Rod) Black, Linda (Mel) Vance, Lonnie Tupa and Sylvia (Dale) Benson. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, George Tupa.
