Charles E Adams

Charles Eugene Adams, 89, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, died at home on April 7, 2018, with his family by his side. Charles was born in Wewoka, OK on August 17, 1928, the son of Luther and Lela Mae (Brown) Adams. He grew up on the family farm and attended Wewoka High School. Charles entered the US Army on June 3, 1946. He proudly served as a mechanic and later a First Sergeant until his honorable discharge on January 1, 1968. He served 9 years in Germany and 2 ½ years in the Far East with the remainder at various state side assignments. After the military Charles attended East Central University in Ada, OK, and earned a bachelor degree in history. Charles started as a teacher with the McComb Oklahoma School District. Then, he became the Principal of Earlsboro High School. He started work with the Corps of Engineers in 1975 and worked as the dam tender at Orwell Dam in Fergus Falls, MN, and Baldhill Dam in Valley City, ND. He retired with 33 years of total federal service in May 1986.  While in Germany, Charles married Ingrid Ida Fehlberg in Berlin on January 30, 1953. The couple lived in various cities while raising their son Charles (Chuck) Adams. In 2005, Charles and Ingrid moved to Grand Forks to be closer to Chuck and his wife, Ute. Charles was an avid collector of stamps and coins. He also worked with wood and made many projects including large rocking horses for his grandsons.  Charles is survived by his wife, Ingrid, his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Ute Adams of Grand Forks, ND; grandsons, Tony (Jenni) Adams and Michael Adams all of Cedar Rapids, IA; great grandson Archer; brother James Rodney Adams of Topeka, KS and sister Barbara Sue Vincent of Albuquerque, NM; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lela; six sisters, Leona Robinson, Lorene Coleman, Mildred Eggesboe, Mary Chapman, Nelda Swan, baby Pauline and one brother, Jack Adams. Memorial service will be held at the Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Military Honors will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honors, VFW Post #3817, and American Legion # 157.In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Alzheimer's Association in Charles' name.
