CAROL J. LEVIN Carol J. (St. Claire) Levin, age 53 of Grand Forks, ND (formerly Belcourt) left her earthly body on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Altru Hospital. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Monday May 14, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith, ND. She will be laid to rest after the lunch and service in the same plot as her son David Jr per her wishes, in the Rolla City Cemetery in Rolla, ND. Carol J. Levin was born on August 29, 1964 in Belcourt ND to June (DeCoteau) and Carl St. Claire. She moved to California to be with her sisters at the age of 16. There she met and married David Levin in 1984. They had 3 children together. Carol longed to be closer to her family in North Dakota and returned to Belcourt in 1989. David Levin wished to remain in California and so their marriage later ended. She moved to Bismarck, ND in 1997 where she lived for 11 years. Although she had a few romantic relationships with men whom she loved deeply at various times in her life she did not like to be tied down. She was very stubborn and always said her family came first. She liked to be an independent woman and to live her life as she pleased. In 2010, she moved to South Carolina to help care for her daughter Terri’s pets and home while Terri deployed to Afghanistan. Marcus her son came to South Carolina to keep Carol company for that year. Carol remained in South Carolina until 2017. During that time, Carol’s other daughter June was diagnosed with cancer. Carol graciously took on the role as the caregiver for her daughter June. Despite hating to travel by car, Carol made several trips between South Carolina to Florida to accompany June for treatment. During that difficult time Carol was diagnosed with Cancer herself yet continued to help care for both her daughters and their pets. After June’s recovery, Carol moved back to North Dakota to again be closer to family. She stayed in Grand Forks for cancer treatment and to live near June who was now her caretaker. Carol has lived in Grand Forks, ND since September 2017 but visited family in Belcourt as often and for as long as she could between her own cancer treatments. Carol was known for being kind and loving to everyone. She could be the life of the party or the shoulder you needed to cry on. She loved her family and friends selflessly and was a giver to a fault. She often gave more than she had to make others happy. She especially loved family gatherings when all her family was together in one place. She often tried to mend family feuds and always said family was the most important thing in life. She was the most forgiving person and never held a grudge. She enjoyed picnics with family by the lake and going to the beach with her daughters and their dogs. She loved to sing and dance. Her favorite pastimes included playing the slot machines at the casino, scratch off lottery tickets, playing mystery and word games on her iPad, and watching true crime TV shows. She was a courageous woman who felt lost without family and easily put her own needs aside for others. She drew her strength to face life’s obstacles from the love she had for family and did so with the utmost dignity and bravery. She is survived by her daughters, Terri of Blaine, MN and June of Grand Forks; a son Marcus St. Claire of New England; grandchildren, Triston and Trevor Faine, Jacinda (CC) Feist and Cinnamon Wilke; her mother June St. Claire of Belcourt; Sisters Janice (Francis) Peach, Stella (Ron) Strickland, Cheryl Adams and Claudette Pochant, all of Belcourt; brothers David (Alma) St. Claire of Belcourt, Bill (Janice) St. Claire of New Town, Ervin (Rosie) St. Claire of Tulsa, AZ and Carl John St. Claire of Littleton, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Carl St. Claire; her son David Levin Jr.; brothers Terry, Alfred, Pascal, Clayton, Willard, and Samuel St. Claire; and her sister Carmelita Renault.
