Dwain Bates

Dwain Eli Bates, 84, passed away at home May 5, 2018. He was born in South Dakota to Eli and Christina Bates who, along with his first wife, JoAnn, preceded Dwain in death. Surviving Dwain are his wife, Sandy, daughters Kerry Magnuson of Grand Forks (Kevin), Kelly Robinson of San Jacinto, CA (Kevin); step-son, Jason Theurer, step-daughters Heather Bushaw of Grand Forks (Richard), Holly Fulgerberg of Chandler, AZ (Ross); brothers, Larry Bates (Penny) and Carl Bates (Diann). Dwain was blessed in life with 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dwain served honorably in the US ARMY, enjoyed racing cars, was an avid fisherman, and musician. He trusted Christ as his Savior in 1971 and began studying for the Gospel Ministry in 1972 at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College in Mulberry, FL. Following his graduation, Dwain pastored churches in White Oak, MN (1980-1982); Mirror Lake Baptist Church in Federal Way, WA (1986-1989); Las Vegas Bible Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico (2000-2003); and Aneta Community Church in Aneta, ND along with Sandy (2007-2009). He also was a missionary Pastor in Hackensack, MN, beginning Heartland Baptist Church and serving there from 1982-1986. Dwain’s passion in life was to see loved ones and friends come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Dwain suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease for several years and experienced loving care from his wife and daughters. All are especially grateful for the care rendered by Altru Hospice, Carol Lunski, and others who touched his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to Altru Hospice are requested.
