Beulajean “BJ” Shaw, 76, Grand Forks, died Saturday, May 19, 2018 in Valley Eldercare. BJ was born, December 27, 1941 in Grand Forks, the daughter of Herman and Verta (McCrystal) Johnson. She grew up in Kennedy, MN where she graduated from Kennedy High School in 1959. She then attended the University of Minnesota before moving to Grand Forks. BJ married Thomas Shaw in 1968 in Kennedy, MN. They made their home in Grand Forks where raised their 3 children. BJ started working for McDonald’s in 1979, working for 25 years until her retirement. She was also a charter member of TOPS. In 2006 she was the TOPS State Queen. BJ was always active. She had a passion for art and enjoyed taking art classes and working with ceramics. After her retirement, BJ became very active at the Grand Forks Senior Center, winning awards for her volunteerism. BJ is survived by her children, daughter Andrea (Scott) Hensrud, Crookston, MN, son Matthew (Jennifer) Shaw, Big Lake, MN, sister Mary (Duffy) Nelson, Gatlinburg, TN, brothers-in-law, Randy Shaw, Nehawka, NE, Mike (Norma) Shaw, Mohall, ND, sister-in-law, Veda Nicholsen, Souris, ND, grandchildren: Kyle (Elizabeth), Christopher (Aisha), Mikayla, Mia, Caitlyn, Kristen, Adam, Amber, great grandchildren: Elijah, Noah, Odin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, parents, and son Christopher. Memorial service will be held, Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
