LaVera F. Strande, 93, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. LaVera Fern Dahley was born August 5, 1924 in Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Knute and Rena (Lunde) Dahley. She was raised, educated and graduated from high school at Jamestown, ND. She furthered her education by earning her teaching degree at Valley City State. She was a school teacher at Maddock, ND. She later moved to Grand Forks to teach in the public schools. LaVera married Nels Strande on June 6, 1954. The next number of years, LaVera focused on raising her family. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Dakota, then returned to teaching. LaVera had an amazing talent for art and Norwegian Rosemaling. She and Nels often attended the Rosemaling Coast to Coast festival at Decorah, IA and the Norwegian Hostfest at Minot, ND. They traveled with their children to several national parks, but their highlight trip was a tour of Norway. LaVera was a very active member of Sharon Lutheran Church. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. In later years, she also enjoyed Twins baseball. Survivors include her sons, Neil (Jody) Strande and David (Janice) Strande, Grand Forks; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels; by brothers, Lloyd, Vernon, Warren, Russell, Darrel, Kenneth and Gordon; and by a sister, Shirley. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
