Eileen L. Horpedahl, 90, Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Eileen Lucille Sorensen was born June 2, 1928 in Hatton, ND, the daughter of Adolph and Agnes (Lyche) Sorensen. She grew up in Hatton and graduated from Hatton High School in 1946. She earned her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College and then taught in one room school houses near Argusville and Hatton. Eileen married Arnold Horpedahl on June 3, 1948. They lived in Mayville, ND before moving to Grand Forks where Eileen worked in the lunch program in the public schools. Eileen helped organize, and became a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Over the next number of years, she served on many committees, Sunday School staff and Women’s programs at Calvary. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed making lefse and flatbread. She also enjoyed holding rummage sales, playing piano and playing games including whist. Survivors include her sons, John (Denise) Horpedahl, Grand Forks, Mark (Jackie) Horpedahl, Sioux Falls, SD, and Tim (Terri) Horpedahl, Grand Forks; four grandsons, Jeremy, Craig, Casey and Eric; one granddaughter, Carrie; four great granddaughters, Jacelyn, Jerzie, Linnea and Sara; three great grandsons, Soren, Jerohn and Hank; along with several nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold in 1990; sisters, Sylvia Sorensen, Helen Bostrom and Clara Hanson; brothers, Willard, Byron and Roland. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks. Memorials are suggested to the music department of Calvary Lutheran Church.
