ROBERT MICHAEL LIEBERMAN (BOB)

On Friday September 23, 2022 Robert Michael Lieberman, a beloved father, grandfather and husband passed away. Bob was 72. On January 15, 1950 Bob was born in Pine Ridge SD, and grew up in Rapid City SD. Bob married Karilee Fox in 1988 and they had 2 children Michael 32 and Christa 22. Bob’s Lakota name was “Lone Hawk Centered” he was a Sun Dancer and actively participated in his Lakota Cultural Events.

Bob joined the Army in 1968 where he was a teletype operator then he was sent to Vietnam and became a medic. Bob was awarded The Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, a National Defense Service Metal, a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge, the Republic of Vietnam civil Actions Honor Medal, along with the First-Class Unit Citation Badge. He also has, Expert Qualification Badge with Automatic Rifle Bar and Marksman Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.

After the Army Bob joined the very first Physician’s Assistant (PA) program at the University of North Dakota (UND) and graduated in 1973. Bob worked as a PA both in Public Service and the Government with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) where he earned many Outstanding Service Awards, before retiring in 2005. Bob was baptized an Episcopalian and loved cooking, gardening, horseback riding and was an avid scuba diver. Bob’s favorite thing to do after he retired was to work with the homeless shelters.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Stan and Delphi (Cuny) Lieberman. Survived by Spouse Karilee Lieberman (Fox), Children Michael (Bri) Lieberman and Christa Lieberman (Symon) Grand Children Gavriel Running Wolf Lieberman and Finneas Winter Hawk Coates. Brothers William and Scott Lieberman and Sisters Judy Gutzmer and Lori Lieberman. And many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Private Service held at the family’s residence at a later date.
