Byron D. Amundson, a Grand Forks native, started his career in funeral service while attending Central High School. After graduating from Central in 1942, he served overseas in the US Army Corps during World War II. He graduated from Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1947. He returned home to Grand Forks to become affiliated with the Hanson-Anderson Mortuary, serving there until 1976.
Byron with the support of his wife, the former Lorraine Staveteig of Thompson, North Dakota opened Amundson Funeral Home on February 1, 1977. A longtime dream of operating his own funeral home had begun.
Byron and Lorraine together were the staff, until they were joined by their sons, Philip in 1982, and Mark in 1987.
Today, the Amundsons are assisted by licensed directors Paul Herzog, originally of Cavalier, North Dakota, Chris Garske, of Devils Lake, North Dakota, and Devin Hillebrand of Grand Forks. We promise to continue our commitment of serving families in a most understanding manner at their time of need.
We wish to express our thanks to the people in our communities who have so graciously accepted our efforts.
